About Ship Breakers

National Geographic wrote an article about how ship breakers in Bangladesh lived and worked.  It talks about the horrible conditions they work in and how dirty and unsafe the job is.  The article says, " ...they’re often constructed with toxic materials, such as asbestos and lead."  These are the ship that they work on and take apart.  "...the industry remains extremely dirty and dangerous."

The article explains how dangerous the job is.  "He and his fellow workers had been cutting a large section for three days, but it wouldn’t fall. During a rainstorm they took shelter beneath the piece, and it suddenly gave way."  These are the condition that they deal with every day.  They are dangerous and dirty.  It is a constant problem for people working there.

There are people tring to change the conditions but there is nothing much that they can change.  The ship will always be dirty and dangerous.

  3. People don't often realize how dangerous other people's jobs are and just put them off as an unimportant job. I'm glad that National Geographic took the time to learn how these people work. This is a very cool but dangerous job and I don't think I'd like it because I'd probably die.
